Photo Shoot For Photographer Emily Soto

Set: 1/3

This photo shoot took place about a week or so ago. We shot in a pretty sketchy area of industrial downtown San Diego. It was a cold and windy day. I felt sorry for the models as they shivered in what little clothing they were dressed in as we hoped to capture a season other than winter. We shot in door ways and against gates which housed strange car scraps yet didn’t seem to be any sort of scrap yard. We shot on tires, and in alleys, where we were reminded of street hockey with lookouts and someone to yell the occasional “CAR!” or ” ALL CLEAR!”.

All in all it was a lovely shoot. The photographer, Emily Soto, was fantastic as was her crew! The models, Alex and Cheyenne, were awesome! My assistant Marilynn Click, was as usual regulating! And our hair and makeup artists rocked it out! Thanks to everyone for having me on the team!

Enjoy the show!

What I Wore Today

Granted, I haven’t been able to upload these as fast as I would like, so the term “what I wore today” is a bit lax. Regardless, I wore this little number to the second Cedar Fire show at The Radio Room in San Diego. We had to travel to LA right after the show so I wanted something that not only looked cute enough to go out in but something that I could wear in a car for a couple of hours whilst trying not to pee my pants during the second leg of the car ride.

The Look:

20’s Style Hat: Target

Deep V Tee: American Apparel

Belt: Forever 21 (see Top 25 Accessories Under $25)

Skirt: Forever 21

Polka Dot Nylon Socks: American Apparel

Pumps: Dear by Amanda Bynes

The Hat that Isn’t Mine

We found this gem of a hat in my dear friend Christine McLaughlin’s boutique back when she was still based in San Diego. It’s actually belongs to Thom and he wore it with pride for a while and then moved on to his next hat de jour.

Meanwhile, this little Britxon came to live with Carol. Even though there are tons of these types of short brimmed fedoras out there made specifically for women, I think there’s nothing sexier than a woman in men’s clothing and the same stands even truer when dealing with hats.

Up next is a series of examples of how I wear my (Thom’s) Brixton Stroll, The Little Fedora That Could.

When I Bite Into A York Peppermint Patty…

As of lately I have been really into York Peppermint Patties! I remember as a kid only eating them around Halloween since there were always those houses that passed out the bite-sized version of this classic confection. My parents weren’t really into buying candy on a regular basis and when I did have the option to purchase some it was never even on the list of candy considerations.

Some time ago I grabbed one needing nothing more than a chocolate fix. I’ve been hooked ever since. I’ve even gotten to the point where I don’t buy them from just any vendor; I go to Clem’s Kensington on Adams Ave! They have the absolute freshest York Peppermint Patties I’ve had in these parts and lemme tell ya, there’s nothing like biting into a fresh peppermint patty. Concerned about the freshness of your York peppermint Patty? An easy way to check if you’re getting a fresh one is to gently press the center of the patty between your thumb & index finger, if the patty center is soft and smushes without much effort, you’ve got yourself a fresh one!

Not only are these tasty treats a good wake up if you’re feeling a little sluggish (the peppermint is actually invigorating) but it is a low fat food free of hydrogenated oils and high fructose corn syrup! The only problem is, I can never think of a sensation. You know, like in the commercials we grew up with where people did strange things because of the candy such as a woman jumps atop her ironing board because she got the sensation of something having to do with skiing I believe, not important, what is, is that I can’t even come up with skiing. I think the best I can do is “When I bite into a York Peppermint Patty, I get the sensation that I want to eat more York Peppermint Patties.”

So for now the best advice I can give you is, “get the sensation”!
