What I Wore Today

So, we’ve got a lot of outfits to catch up on. So it’s really just an archive of the outfits over the last couple of months. Sorry, school kicked my butt this last semester. But enough of me…

This is a little something I put together on my way out to meet with a band the band Authentic $ellout, which I will be styling for press kit photos as well as website photo shoots and what not. I’m super excited to be working with such an awesome well known local underground punk band! Now, how much will they let me get away with?

It is important that when you’re meeting clients you look professional but not out of place. You can’t try too hard, and remember, you are there to work. Don’t over do it.

Red Studded Belt: Urban Outfitters (a million years ago)

What I Wore Today

I have this amazing corset that I bought years ago for my wedding. I usually limit my use of it to Halloween, but this night I wanted to try something a little different with it and throw it over a LBD (Little Black Dress) and belting it to add a splash of color. It’s quite by accident that my lip colour matches my belt. Lately, I have been trying to use garments in different ways. It takes time to figure it out and trail and error but the important thing is to not get discouraged. If something doesn’t work out the way you’s hoped just give it time, perhaps you just haven’t found that something perfect to make it work.

I felt with a piece as bold as a bright white corset, I decided to go accessory-less, which I don’t usually like to do but sometimes you have to let the outfit speak for it’s self

What I Wore Today

As per usual, I was having a hard time finding motivation to get ready and go out, but alas, I did.

I first considered wearing a skirt or a dress out, but ultimately realized that with my LC jean leggings fresh out of the laundry I couldn’t resist wearing them. I still didn’t know what I wanted to do up top however, I did know that I wanted something a little masculine as well as something a little flowy at the same time.

As I dug through Thom’s closet trying on shirt after shirt I finally found this little number and fell in love with it. Seriously, the texture of the fabric is amazingly soft and I love the print! I didn’t want to look too under-dressed and I thought it would be fun to concentrate a little more on accessories mostly because I am really into them at the moment.I was hoping that I could wear my hair a little bigger but there is only so much one can do straight out of the shower.

Someone told me last night that with my hair, the pearls and the flannel I looked like Marilyn Monroe! Not a bad compliment, huh?

The Look:

Flannel Men’s Button-Up: Altamont Apparel (Urban Outfitters) Borrowed From Thom

What I Wore Today

This outfit actually took quite a long time to get just right. I knew I wanted to go for more of a Parisian look, which translates into Black and white horizontal stripes.

I first tried this black mini with an umbrella sweater but even with the mini skirt it looked too boxy. I then tried it with another sweater but the fabric just seemed too heavy for the skirt also making it a poor choice. Then I found this shirt and was originally going to wear it untucked but I wanted cleaner lines in the silhouette. I toyed with some belts and knee socks but none of them seemed to feel natural. Then I tinkered with some suspenders and came out with this cross-over number.

The Look:

Boyfriend Blazer: Merona (Target)

Wool Cloche (Hat): Forever 21

Mini Skirt: Express

Striped Shirt: Self Esteem (J.C. Penny)

Suspenders: American Apparel

Oversized Pink Heart Ring: Forever 21

Bird Connector Ring: Forever 21

What I Wore Today

It was the night before Meganne’s birthday and all through the land, all the creatures were stirring and off to the Ken. We’d planned a party for this princess you see, with balloons of purple and gold, the amount was 23! The party was a surprise all planned by her friends, with cupcakes and mixed drinks and shots where the trend! We laughed and we danced till Chris took her off. Off to her apartment in Hillcrest to make some romance!

Since I was a key player in the party planning committee I was running around all day setting up by the time of the party I had no idea what to wear. Meganne didn’t know there was a party for her so I was very cautious to not get too dressed up in the event she was a bit more casual.

I was given this green silk blouse from my friend Amanda C. about a year ago and I had been struggling to work it into an outfit. It has a very old lady collar and buttons quite high so that it covers everything from the neck base and down. And even though it’s a small it is still rather billowy and shapeless. The Sleeves are full and have the same tight fit around the wrists as it does the neckline.

After experimenting with it in the last year I knew if I were to wear it I would have to find some way to make it look younger and less conservative. I tucked in the neck and buttons and kept it in place by taping it to my breast on each side with fashion tape. I then taped the sides down to give the neck line an interesting angle. I keep the sleeves rolled up three quarters length and used a wide cap fold to give it a more Annie Hall meets 1920’s feel.

Another great part about this outfit is that I finally got to wear this awesome vintage belt I purchased in LA at Pop Killer (on Sunset next to Toi Thai and across the street from Meltdown) and still had not been able to work it into rotation.

I was adamant that night about not wearing a skirt or dress. I just did not want to get out of my LC jean leggings (so comfy) so I was pleased that I was able to make it work. I went for a modern twist on the 20’s, which I seem to be doing a lot lately, I just love the accessories of the time!

The Look:

Flapper Style Hat: Target

Green Silk Blouse: Ninety

Red Button Belt: Vintage (Pop Killer)

Jean Leggings: LC by Lauren Conrad

Knee High Boots: Isaac Mizrahi

Long Strand Pearl Necklace: Ebay

Black Mirror Ball Ring: Forever 21

Green Swarovski Crystal Bracelet: Urban Outfitters

What I Wore Today

I know that we all have those days when we feel really, well…for lack of a better word…fat. Call it bloat or whatever else you may but that fact of the matter still remains the same, on those days it’s very hard to get enthusiastic about going out. Here, experiencing first hand “one of those days”, I opted to keep it simple and focus on the accessories.

That said, I would like to pay special focus on is the scarf. In all honesty it’s not a scarf at all, it is a headband, one that has the scrunchie in the back and you basically don’t even have to tie (you know, because of the scrunchie bit) you then can tie the back strips to make a pretty bow or what have you.
I decided to use it as a scarf tying the knot big enough to hit the scrunched bit. Topping off the look, literally, was this very 1920’s/1930’s style women’s hat that I just love. These two attention to details transform a look which can be otherwise plain, simple, or boring and then attach a style, a time period, a way of thinking something that now make it special in a very nonchalant sort of way.

What I Wore Today

It’s been a pretty hot last couple of weeks and I don’t know about you but I don’t deal too well with the heat. I hate runny makeup and sweating when I’m standing still. Shorts have played a huge role in my summer look I like to dress them up and I like to dress them down. The hat made me a little hotter than I expected but I couldn’t just take it off, I’d planned the whole outfit around it.
This boho look received any compliments and despite the hat was a pretty good choice given the temperature. But one must suffer for fashion every once and a while.

The Look:

Red Hat: Urban Outfitters

Top: Urban Outfitters

Shorts: Charlotte Russe

Tights: American Apparel

Boots: Isaac Mizrahi (Target)

What I Wore Today

Sometimes I feel like a badass, and I often want to reflect my mood in my outfit. All though sometimes the outfit is intended to help me forget how I’m feeling at a particular moment and kind of restart my engine. That’s the basic idea behind this outfit.

Years and years and years ago when I was still living in Los Angeles we got our first Forever 21, or XXI as it was called back then. One day I was looking around and I found this amazing leather motorcycle jacket. It was $50, which was unheard of back then for Forever 21. But I loved it and had to have it. In the time that followed I wore the jacket maybe 4 times.

When I met Thom he was super skinny and could fit into the jacket so I gave it to him. Fast-forward a few years to when I rediscovered this piece in the back of his closet. I pulled it out to take a look at it and decided to try to work it back in to my circulation.

On this particular night, I needed something that reflected the message sent by my tee shirt, which was of course, badass!

The moral of the story is if there is an article of clothing that you absolutely love and you can afford it, you should get it. You might not wear it today or tomorrow or the next day, but you will someday. Sometimes it’s as simple as maturing into someone who can wear pieces that speak for themselves without feeling drowned out by the image you’re trying to portray. I find that the older I get the more fashion risks I’m willing to take. I think when you’re younger (as in teens and early 20-somethings) you’re still trying to find yourself and most people at that age are worried about ridicule that can be brought on by the wrong fashion choice. So you play your cards close to your heart and hope for the best. But as you get older you get this kind of “I know what I like and if no one else likes it they can go you-know-what themselves.” This is when life is it’s sweetest and fashion is at it’s purest. Relish these moments and make them count for all you can!

The second side of this moral is, though I’m a huge advocate for getting rid of garments you don’t wear, this is the exception to the rule. If you have something you love (clothing wise) hang on to it for a bit, who knows it could turn out to be much more of a treasure than you think.
