What I Wore Today

Heading out for another lovely night of Ken Club Karaoke, located in the heart of beautiful Kensington, SD. I found this dress at a local boutique and purchased it for my styling arsenal…but not before I took it for a test spin! I love the cut of the dress which has a very interesting silhouette and a cool paint splattered pattern.

I didn’t want to cover up the dress too much so I paired it with this mini cardigan for both warmth and modesty.

Adding the knee length cowboy boots and initial necklace I have a look that I affectionately refer to as “The Sweetheart”.

The Look:

Avant-Garde Dress: Insight (purchased at a local boutique)

Mini Cardigan: Forever 21

Boots: Wild Diva (Lulu’s.com)

“C” Initial Necklace: Gypsy Warrior Vintage (Etsy.com)

What I Wore Today

This is a look that I like to refer to as the AC/DC based on the classic red and black horizontal stripped shirt and the very classic cabbie hat. I have been a bit behind on my posts so this one is actually a couple of months old. But we’ll get you caught up, don’t you worry my pretties!

When ever you’re in doubt about what to wear the first thing you consider should be weather and comfort. You don’t want to be “that girl” that standing out side a bar looking ridiculous because she insisted on wearing the tiniest thing she owned. Rather, you should pick a staple piece and try it with a couple of different looks. And remember, tights are your friends, use them! There’s nothing sexy about a shivering girl dressed out of season.

The Look:

Cabbie Hat: H&M (Men’s section)

Pea Coat: Miss Sixty

AC/DC Inspired Top: Bitten by Sarah Jessica Parker

Skirt: Forever 21

Belt: Forever 21

White Frilly Socks: American Apparel

Boots: Forever 21

Initial “C” Necklace: Etsy

14 Carat Vintage Gold Chain: Stolen (from my brother)

Gold Glasses Necklace: Forever 21

What I Wore Today

For the last couple of weeks the weather has been pretty crap. First we had a steady stream of mist falling from the sky for about a week. Then came the really hard rain. Now it’s just cold. If you’re anything like me, getting motivated when the weather is all rainy is darn near impossible. I didn’t want to leave my house, bed, or PJ’s but we all have to do things we don’t want to.

Though I normally dress up a bit when I go out I decided to keep it ultra casual and spend the night playing pool rather than karaoke. If I recall correctly I was so uninterested that I didn’t even put makeup on…gasp! But when it rains I need to feel as comfortable as possible. Here I am wearing all my favorite casual wear.

The Look:

Hooded Pea Coat: Miss Sixty

Men’s Light-Weight Scarf: H&M

Deep V Jersey Tee: American Apparel

Black Studded Belt: Urban Outfitters

Skinny Jeans: Dickies

Equestrian Style Rain Boots: Bitten by Sarah Jessica Parker

What I Wore Today

I’ve been hanging out at a new bar, well, new to me. My girl Marilynn and I go out on dates to insure we get enough girl time. One night we went to The Blarney Stone I was a bit overdressed, we’ll not once I took my coat off. Anyway, some of the people in the bar felt it completely appropriate to remark when we left because (it was really crowded) “Not you’re type of bar, huh?” I don’t know why he had to be so snarky. I almost turned and said “Shut up ugly!” But I didn’t. Okay, long story short the next time we went out to The Blarney Stone I try to keep it a little less amazing.

I bought this tunic at this amazing boutique called Native which is on Franklin near The Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theater in Los Angeles. Here I chose to tuck it in rather than wear it as intended.

The Look:

Hat: Kimchi Blue (Urban Outfitters)

Geo Tunic: Beulah (Native)

Belt: Forever 21

Vintage Gold Chain: Gift (from my brother)

Golden Bow Ring: Street Vendor (Adams Ave. Fair)

What I Wore Today

I have this amazing corset that I bought years ago for my wedding. I usually limit my use of it to Halloween, but this night I wanted to try something a little different with it and throw it over a LBD (Little Black Dress) and belting it to add a splash of color. It’s quite by accident that my lip colour matches my belt. Lately, I have been trying to use garments in different ways. It takes time to figure it out and trail and error but the important thing is to not get discouraged. If something doesn’t work out the way you’s hoped just give it time, perhaps you just haven’t found that something perfect to make it work.

I felt with a piece as bold as a bright white corset, I decided to go accessory-less, which I don’t usually like to do but sometimes you have to let the outfit speak for it’s self

The Look:

Equestrian Trench Coat: Delia*s (delias.com)

LBD (Little Black Dress): Xhilaration (Target)

White Corset: Fredrick’s of Hollywood

Red Button Belt: Vintage (Pop Killer on Sunset in LA)

What I Wore Today

As per usual, I was having a hard time finding motivation to get ready and go out, but alas, I did.

I first considered wearing a skirt or a dress out, but ultimately realized that with my LC jean leggings fresh out of the laundry I couldn’t resist wearing them. I still didn’t know what I wanted to do up top however, I did know that I wanted something a little masculine as well as something a little flowy at the same time.

As I dug through Thom’s closet trying on shirt after shirt I finally found this little number and fell in love with it. Seriously, the texture of the fabric is amazingly soft and I love the print! I didn’t want to look too under-dressed and I thought it would be fun to concentrate a little more on accessories mostly because I am really into them at the moment.I was hoping that I could wear my hair a little bigger but there is only so much one can do straight out of the shower.

Someone told me last night that with my hair, the pearls and the flannel I looked like Marilyn Monroe! Not a bad compliment, huh?

What I Wore Today

This outfit actually took quite a long time to get just right. I knew I wanted to go for more of a Parisian look, which translates into Black and white horizontal stripes.

I first tried this black mini with an umbrella sweater but even with the mini skirt it looked too boxy. I then tried it with another sweater but the fabric just seemed too heavy for the skirt also making it a poor choice. Then I found this shirt and was originally going to wear it untucked but I wanted cleaner lines in the silhouette. I toyed with some belts and knee socks but none of them seemed to feel natural. Then I tinkered with some suspenders and came out with this cross-over number.

The Look:

Boyfriend Blazer: Merona (Target)

Wool Cloche (Hat): Forever 21

Mini Skirt: Express

Striped Shirt: Self Esteem (J.C. Penny)

Suspenders: American Apparel

Swarovski Crystal Heart Dog Collar Necklace: Betsey Johnson

Knee Boots: Isaac Mizrahi

Oversized Pink Heart Ring: Forever 21

Bird Connector Ring: Forever 21

What I Wore Today

When I shop it’s like war. I go to every women’s store in the mall or along the street for some intel. I do full sweeps of the stores and grab as many items as I like (and can carry) in the first round. Try on stuff, put aside the maybes and attack the sales floor again. I can shop so fast I should get an award for it! But, honestly, this is how I am able to find the many gems I find. I’m always on the hunt for a sale or a cheap store. But my favorite (and very dangerous) missions take place in the magical kingdom of the internet.

The greatest thing about internet shopping is you get the high from shopping, you add to your cart, review, take things out, add things, and then you pay. I love it! But the best part comes a few weeks later when the purchases arrive in their large boxes concealing items I have already forgotten about. It’s like getting presents in the mail. Like someone who knows you really well picked out a bunch of things just for me and had them sent right over! It’s like a happy ending to a beautiful movie. I don’t care what store they came from, I care how awesome they are.

This shirt was purchased from Wet Seal (online). I loved the idea of a super long shirt and it was on sale! When it came in the mail I was a bit disappointed, as can happen with internet shopping. The shirt didn’t have buttons all the way down it and the middle of the shirt split too high under the sweater part. I took it to the tailor and had them sew part of it shut.

I wore this shirt a couple of times to school with skinny high-waisted jeans and cute women’s oxford heels. But this particular night I wanted to do something a little special with it. I have not learned how to reconstruct garments yet so I do a lot of tucking and pinning, which honestly leaves me with more options in the long run. Belting it helped the folds stay in place and the black mini gave it a great cut-out look.

The Look:

Long Sweater Shirt: Wet Seal

Black Bandage Mini: H&M

Belt: Forever 21

White Studded Platform Pumps: Charlotte Russe

Fan: Wedding Favor (Kim & Ryan Jensen)

Hot Pink Heart Earrings: Wholesale Accessories Store (Chula Vista, San Diego)

Fedora: Brixton (Borrowed from Thom)
