I bought this skirt from an online boutique called Lulu’s. I never actually wore it because it never sat right on my body. I mean, I know I have hips, but it managed to make me look deformed!

I recently went through my entire closet getting rid of anything I hadn’t worn in a long time as well as stuff that was ill fitting. As I organized my piles I debated if I should try to sell this skirt on EBay or if I should try a resale place like Buffalo Exchange or Flashbacks, but I knew I wouldn’t get even a fraction of what it cost me, and since it was unworn, I would feel really cheated as it was not a cheap item.

Finally, not wanting to do either, I held it up, looked it over, and wondered if there was anything I could do with this skirt. Then I tried it on as a top and belted it. I was in love! Paired with one of my favorite jeans from when I worked at Urban Outfitters as a late teen/early 20something I got a fun look for day or as I wore it, night.

I think the best part of fashion is using a garment for something other than its intended use. Here, I went to town!

I bought this dress at a trunk show last year and wore the heck out of it. But then I lost a bunch of weight and the dress, though I loved it, didn’t seem to hang right anymore. It went from being stylishly flowy to being horribly bag like. I was about to sell it on Ebay but then I had a thought: by adding a belt and hoisting the dress to a mini it gave me a whole new flattering look. I felt fun and free all night in it!

The Look:

Hat: Brixton (from a friend’s boutique)

Dress: Voll (also from a friend’s boutique)

Belt: Forever 21

Shoes: Betsey Johnson

Cocktail Ring: Vera Wang
